Detailed Itinerary (God's Will)

Trying to find out God's will for your life is something many of us struggle with. We want a detailed itinerary of what God wants us to do for our lives. However, in the Bible, you don't see people trying to find out what God's will is for their lives. They just lived life trying to honor God. You know God's will by doing God's will. Faith is active.

Sometimes God will even hide His will from us. If He did not hide it from us we would be all about His will and not Him. The question we need to be asking is are we coming to know God better through what we are doing?

Here is some Biblical support in finding out what God's will is all about...
     1) It is God's will that one is saved...1 Timothy 2:3-4 "This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."
     2) It is God's will that one is spirit-controlled, filled with the Holy Spirit...Ephesians 5:17-20 "Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
     3) It is God's will that one is sanctified, living in purity and abstaining from sexual immorality...1 Thessalonians 4:3-7 "It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life."
     4) It is God's will that one is submissive and obedient to authority within the principles of Scripture...1 Peter 2:13-15 "Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people."
     5) It is God's will that you suffer for Christ, suffer for doing what is right...1 Peter 3:17-18 "For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit." 2 Timothy 3:12 "In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted."
     6) It is God's will that you rejoice, pray, and give thanks always. The glory is God's in everything...1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

We keep God's commandments because we love Him. When you love God, your desire is to please Him. When your life lines up with these 6 principles, it is hard to do anything outside of the will of God because you are living a life that reflects Christ and is guided by the Spirit. If you trust in God and are saved, are spirit-filled in all you do, living a life of purity, submitting to the authority that God has placed in your life, living, sacrificing, and suffering for what is right, and always rejoicing and giving thanks for all the many blessings that God has given you, then your desires are going to line up with God's. Psalm 37:4 says, "Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." God will bless you all the more for living a life sold out for Him. Just act out in faith knowing that God establishes your steps (Proverbs 16:9).

Psalm 48:14 "For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end."
Psalm 31:3 "Since you are my Rock and my Fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me."
Proverbs 16:3 "Commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans."
